Nutcracker Petite

Our Nutcracker Petite performance takes place each fall at the end of the semester and has become a cherished holiday tradition at TTD.

Each year, dancers bring the magic of The Nutcracker to life, whether through a shortened version of the classic story or a creative new interpretation.

Age Eligibility

Dancers must be at least 4.5 years old at the time of auditions to participate.

Registration & Auditions

Auditions are typically held during the second weekend of the fall semester. All interested dancers must register in advance. An audition fee is required at the time of registration. If your dancer feels nervous about auditioning, they are still welcome to participate, auditions are designed to be a positive and inclusive experience, and all dancers are accepted.

Why Auditions?

Auditions help introduce dancers to the audition process in a supportive, low-pressure environment. It’s a valuable learning experience that builds confidence and stage readiness.

All enrolled dancers are cast in the production.

Audition Experience

Ages 4.5–7: Dancers will learn a short routine and perform it in a fun, encouraging environment.

Ages 8+: Dancers will learn and perform a short routine for a panel that includes guest professionals and TTD directors. Casting is based on a structured evaluation process designed by our ballet faculty. Placement decisions are made thoughtfully to highlight each dancer’s strengths.

What to Wear for Auditions

Ages 4.5–7: Black leotard preferred. If unavailable, a pink or blue leotard with pink tights and ballet shoes is acceptable. Hair should be in a neat, slick low bun.

Ages 8+: Black or dark-colored leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes. Dancers in Pointe I and above should bring pointe shoes. Hair should be in a neat, slick low bun.
