Los Angeles and received
a scholarship to a dance school in Los Angeles.
Leigh says "You are never too old to dance and she will offer
classes for all ages, 3 to 103. Ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, body
sculpting, stretch, salsa, and country western classes will be offered
beginning January 7, 2002. Summer dance camp and cheer camp will
complete the schedule, along with Masters classes will be taught by
Leigh's older sister, a professional ballerina in Europe. The
classes will coincide with the school semesters and registration is this
Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tarrytown dance studio
has five wonderful teachers including Leigh herself.
Having chaired Coats for Kids last year with the Junior
League, Leigh got a taste of what it is like to see children receive
something they desire. It was the look in their eye that gave Leigh
the incentive to ignite her long time dream. She wants to see
children work hard and obtain a goal. Her goal is to "provide
quality dance training while both challenging each student at their level,
and still making it a fun experience". With Leigh's amazing wealth
of vibrant energy, it could be nothing less.

The
hammering and the sanding can be heard from the parking lot, and inside
what will soon be a beautiful dance studio in Tarrytown, there is a busy
hum of painting, smoothing, cutting and fixing.
There are two dance studios. The larger one has one way
mirrors convenient for parent observation. There will soon be
mirrors and bars on all the walls but already it is beginning to have the
feel of a place where an art form is learned and where children will
strive to accomplish beautiful things.
At the heart of all the commotion is Leigh Simmons, a
profusion of energy and spirit. Leigh, a dancer herself, with the
light, graceful look of a ballerina, is fulfilling a life long dream with
the opening of her Tarrytown Dance Studio. Leigh comes from a
dancing family and has been dancing since the age of seven. She
began teaching as a teacher's assistant at thirteen. Her alliance
with dance has shaped her life. A dancer and teacher with dance
troupes in Fort Worth and Houston, a choreographer and trainer to Dallas
Cowboy Cheerleaders, she trained with Janet Jackson's choreo-graphers in
